Actually, I count those hours as "training".   :-)

I've looked at my "PicBlaster" again, and (with a hint from Rolan)
noticed that my "78L05" is MISSING AN "L"!!  That would probably
explain why my circuit is sucking so much power that the programming
voltage never gets above 7 Volts.  <sigh>
