Jeff asked about 16C84 prices in the UK, Farnell 25 off prices are much cheaper than 8 pounds, I usually buy in 25 or 100 off quantities and I am happy to discuss an arrangement with other interested UK PIC listers. Having seen the discussion on the need for more EEPROM devices I'm not convinced, I used to use the '84 all the time until I got an EPROM eraser, then you look at the very cheap OTP prices compared to the '84 which in the UK is more expensive than OTP 54,55,56,57,58 and 71, and has limited program memory and RAM.... So EEPROM is fast to erase, but then solving a software bug normally takes me more than the 8 minutes a /JW version takes to erase in UV, especially if you adopt a structured approach and try to test as much as possible before creating a new software build. Finally I think that most large commercial users shy away from in service upgrades (although perhaps not in the military field), I'd prefer to think they get the bugs out before issue - when was the last time you found a bug in a video recorder ! If there is general interest I could post a little more on the subject on the PICLIST, or to individual users, although I believe there was some discussion on the subject back in August before I was a PICLIST subscriber.
