Someone wrote that LCD displays are better driven from AC, DC doesn't work
so well.

WARNING!!
LCDs MUST be driven by AC, otherwise an irreversible electrochemical reaction
takes place, and your nice new display is buggered well and truly.
IE your drive current must be alternately +ve and -ve at over 1kHz
