Microchip has produced thousands of PICSTARTS in the previous months. It takes a while for these units with MPALC to get cleared in the distribution pipeline. Some are opened, than re-shrinked with an additional disk with MPASM added. There are new production units with MPASM only being shipped. For the next couple of months, it may be luck of the draw on what you may receive. MPASM is available for free download on the Microchip BBS available via your local Compuserve access number. MPALC is still being supported, but users will be encouraged to migrate to MPASM. No new processors will be ported to it. So dead is a bit premature as a discription, but MPALC is lookint a bit pale... Hope this clears this issuea a bit, Regards to all, Mike Jedrzejewski Northwest Regional Applications Manager Microchip Technology, San Jose, CA mikejed@netcom.com On Wed, 21 Sep 1994, Pic User wrote: > If MPALC is dead, why are Microchip distributing it with PICSTART?? > I bought my set last week, and it has MPSTART, MPALC, MPSIM and a sample > set of files.... > > BRYAN > > -- > --------------------------------- > BRYAN CROTAZ - b.crotaz@ic.ac.uk > --------------------------------- > TECHNICAL MANAGER > Student Television Of Imperial College > Beit Quad, Prince Consort Road > London SW7 2BB > Tel. 071-594-8104 > Fax. 071-225-2309 attn.
