Gadgeteers Gold by Gordon McComb is one of the best project books out there. Packed with great projects, a good deal of them electrical. Any at-home tinkerer should have this book.

coverLasers, Ray Guns, and Light Cannon is also by Gordon McComb, is chock full of laser based projects in communications, special effects, and holograms.

Homemade Lightning: Creative Experiments in Electricity by R. A. Ford is a terrific book on electrostatics and building electrostatic machines. In my humble opinion, there isn't a better book on the subject in print!

Sundials : Their Theory and Construction by Albert Edmund Waugh. This is my personal favorite book on the subject. It is rich in detail, outlining the theories behind constructing very accurate sundials.

Sundials : History, Theory, and Practice by Rene R. J. Rohr deals with the practical construction of sundials.

Holography

Homemade Holograms : The Complete Guide to Inexpensive, Do-It-Yourself Holography by John Iovine. An excellent text, simply explained. Covers the basic techniques thoroughly.

Holography Handbook : Making Holograms the Easy Way by Fred Unterseher. This is a classic "pop" text of holography, and is an excellent introduction to basic theory. However, some experienced holographers take issue with the use of a sand table as described here.

Shoebox Holography : A Step-By-Step Guide to Making Holograms Using Inexpensive Semiconductor Diode Lasers by Frank Defreitas, Alan Rhody, Steve Michael. This book is thorough and very easy to follow. You WILL learn the basics of holography with this one. Suited for the classroom, but recommended for anyone.

Lasers and Holography : An Introduction to Coherent Optics by Winston E. Kock is a great introduction for the general reader to the theories behind lasers and holography.
